“Volition” is the developer behind the goofy “Saints Row” franchise, and their 2015 title “Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell” was just as irreverent and unapologetically chaotic as expected. Since then, though, the studio has been unusually quiet, until now. Enter Agents of Mayhem, which IGN notes is set in the same universe as Volition’s hit franchise.
Based on the trailer, it’s clear to see that the new game contains many of the things that the studio specializes in, which means that they are sticking to some of the established strategies. There’s the urban setting, the wacky characters, the obnoxious plot, and the open world. IGN hints that there is more to the game than meets the eye, though, but they have chosen not to reveal what they mean at the moment.
In any case, it should be noted that though players will be facing off against destructive and clichéd villains in the game, the Agents aren’t exactly what could be described as good either. Mayhem is actually an acronym, which stands for Multinational Agency for Hunting Evil Masterminds, and doing this job requires individuals who are willing to break the rules; along with cars, buildings, and houses.
The main antagonists, this time, is the organization known as L.E.G.I.O.N. or the League of Gentlemen Intent on Obliterating Nations. Does the name sound silly? Of course, it does, this is a “Volition” game. That is the point.
In any case, Engadget explains that players will be able to choose between 12 agents, all of which have their own unique skill sets. Players will then engage super-powered enemies at several locations throughout Seoul, South Korea in heated battles to take down the evil organization.
The game isn’t set to be released until 2017 though, so players who need their Saints Row fix will need to settle for the last game in the series.
